Steve Shepherd: a poem

everything

how many times

has my last act of the day

been to place my lips

on your right shoulder blade?

always the right.

it must be calculable

within a reasonable margin:

thirty-eight years

three hundred and sixty-five

days in each, give or take.

in truth though

it's not the amount that matters.

each kiss

means everything.

Steve Shepherd writes poems and takes photographs. He used to make radio programmes, mostly jazz.
